Tenant Issues After a Disaster (1)

Abstract

If a disaster damages your rental home, you may have rights under Florida law. If the home is partly damaged, your rent might be reduced. If it is destroyed, you can end your lease and leave. You must notify your landlord in writing if you reduce rent or end the lease because of the disaster. Always take pictures before and after a storm to document damage. Your landlord must maintain the building, but you must report any damage. If your landlord tries to evict you illegally, they must follow legal steps. If you have renter’s insurance, file a claim; otherwise, you can apply for FEMA assistance. Read your lease to understand your rights and responsibilities. #tenant #landlord #eviction #apartment #rental #renter #lease #damage
