Renter's Rights

Abstract

This video is about renters’ rights in Florida, especially for people affected by disasters. In Florida, disasters do not change rental rules unless the lease or government says so. Rent is still due, and evictions can still happen. Landlords must still make repairs and cannot remove tenants without a court order. If a rental home is badly damaged, renters can stop paying rent or end the lease, but they must give written notice first. Mobile home renters may have different rules depending on whether they rent the home or just the land. Evictions move fast in Florida. If rent isn’t paid, a landlord can give a 3-day notice. If the rent isn’t paid, they can file for eviction. Tenants have only 5 days to respond. If they do nothing, they can be removed quickly. Renters should pay attention to notices and get legal help early to protect their rights.
