Understanding FEMA Applications

Abstract

FEMA helps people after disasters through the Individuals and Households Program (IHP). This program gives money for home repairs and replacing important things. For help to be available, a disaster must happen, the government must declare it, and Individual Assistance (IA) must be approved. Not all disasters qualify, so check with local emergency offices or call 211. You can apply at a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) or online at disasterassistance.gov. Fill out every question to avoid delays. If denied, you can appeal. Being prepared and knowing these steps can help families get the support they need after a disaster.
